This section of "On Track in the Garden" will chronicle my progress modelling WCR F501, a Walker 107 bhp diesel locomotive built in Wigan, UK. It was one of three introduced to the West Clare Railway in 1955. They ran until closure of the line on January 1st, 1961. Rumours of a possible sale to the Isle of Man Railway came to nought, and all 3 were cut up for scrap in 1968/9.
I'll be using a scale 16mm to the foot with 45 mm track gauge in keeping with the rest of my rolling stock. 45 mm is useful because track is easily obtainable. It is nearly, but not exactly scale for 3 foot narrow gauge. (The exact scale gauge would be 48 mm.)
